This is the first negative review I’ve ever shared after reading quite a number of books.

I initially wrote this in my notebook, debating whether or not I should post it publicly — but here I am.

First of all, this has nothing to do with the book’s genre. I read across many genres, including Khmer books with foreign settings, and I’ve come across many I truly love.
To me, a great book is a complete package of art and creativity, where every detail feels intentional and meaningful. Sadly, the books I’m referring to in this post were almost unbearable to get through.

The language was poorly used, with far too many grammatical and spelling errors. The plot and structure were unrealistic and difficult to follow. Some of the conflicts created in the story felt unnecessary and forced.
These books had already gone through two or three reprints by the time I read them — which made me wonder: What was missing? Was I the only one noticing these issues? Or maybe there were no issues at all for others?

Books are incredibly powerful and influential, regardless of genre. That’s why I always want to highlight the great ones I’m proud to have read — even if I’ve been judged for simply enjoying fiction. 🥹
This time, though, I’m so disappointed that I wouldn’t even gift the book to a friend. I’m genuinely worried about what kind of experience it would give them.

I’m not trying to be dramatic or devalue anyone’s work. But considering how much we paid, it simply didn’t live up to it. I’ve bought many locally published books and have a sense of what’s considered pricey — this just didn’t meet the mark.

Finally, I hope this reaches the right audience.
